Listener Questions and Comments
Cliff from Podcast Answer Man calls asking: What is a good way to get started with wooden boats if it’s all new to you, and, are there boat kits available?”.  Yes kits are available and are really fun to build.  Here’s 2 fine companies that sell kits: CLC Boats and Pygmy Boats.  There are lots of other kit companies out there also – just google “Boat Kits”!  Also, locate local wooden boat builders, enthusiasts, and wooden boat festivals in your neck of the woods and get connected with these people.  They love to get newbies “hooked on wooden boats”!  The Wooden Boat Shop Inc. in Cincinnati would be a good contact at 513 941-7281.  Also Skiff Craft Boats has been building wooden boats in the Cincinnati area since 1904!

Interview with Dick Wagner – Founder of Center for Wooden Boats Seattle: Started with a dream in the 1960’s!
This week I sat down with Dick Wagner and recorded a fascinating interview of how the Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) idea was birthed in the 1960’s and how Dick and his wife nurtured and brought the concept to reality during the ensuing years.  Dick talks about his passion for boats: “a boat is a functional form of art”!  He describes how the Center for Wooden Boats has touched the lives of the disabled, underprivileged, and youth of the area, and how the CWB has become a model for wooden boat centers around the world.  Don’t miss this insightful history and story of the CWB!  Click on green player button above to listen to the interview.  Dick’s email is and the phone number is 206-382-2628.

Dick Wagners favorite boat “Dora”, an electric launch for messing around in.
